WHO?
The Curtain Raisers of The Claremont Colleges was organized in 1963 for the purpose of encouraging volunteer activities for the support of The Claremont Colleges theatre programs and to provide scholarships to deserving college students. In 1994, the Curtain Raisers proposed the Claremont School of Theatre Arts. The Pomona College Department of Theatre and Dance embraced the idea and became an active partner.
WHAT?
Since it began in 1994, the goal of the Claremont School of Theatre Arts has been to expose young minds to the wonderful world of theatre - teaching them problem solving skills, sparking imaginations and nurturing creativity. Over the years participants have enjoyed classes as varied as voice training, scene study, improv, mime and mask acting techniques. The five-week course concludes with a production for the public. This year promises to be no exception!
WHERE?
Through the sponsorship of the Pomona College Department of Theatre and Dance, CSTA students are given the unique opportunity to learn and perform in professional theatre spaces. The Seaver Theatre Complex, located at the end of East Bonita Avenue on the scenic Pomona College campus, boasts beautiful performance spaces including the Allen Black Box Theatre where our final production takes place. The complex also includes multiple rehearsal spaces as well as a beautiful scene shop, where the students will learn how sets are constructed.
