The Directing Emphasis requires

The core courses for all theatre majors:

• Introduction to Acting (THEA 1)
• Visual Arts of the Theatre (THEA 2)
• Theatre Crafts Sets/Costumes/Properties (THEA 20A)
  or Management/Lights/Sound (THEA 20B)
• 3 Courses on the History of Theatre (THEA 110, THEA 111, and THEA 115)
• Modern Dance (DANCE 10a or 10b)
• A specialized movement class such as Kabuki (THEA 19), Mime (THEA 13), or Exploration of Cultual Style (DANCE 150)
• Senior Seminar (THEA 190)
• Senior Thesis (THEA 191)
• 4 Theatre Production Crew Assignments (THEA 52)

PLUS:

• Introduction to Directing (THEA 130)
• Intermediate Acting (THEA 12)
• One of the following design courses:
  • Set Design (THEA 80)
  • Costume Design (THEA 81)
  • Lighting Design (THEA 82)
• Writing for the Stage (THEA 140) or an additional Theatre History course (THEA 115)
• Special Projects in Theatre (THEA 199)
• Senior Project in Directing (THEA 195)
• Stage manage a major production.

A student with a Directing Emphasis in Theatre must present their portfolio for approval in the spring semester of his/her junior year. The student can chose a show to direct for their Senior Project. The Senior Thesis will be written the semester before and will deal with that project.
