About the Department: Guest Artists

Each year the department brings in a distinguished guest artist to give seminars and workshops for the theatre and dance students. Past distinguished artists have included performer and playwright Anna Deavere Smith, scenic designer Boris Messerer (from the Moscow Art Theatre), Beijing Chinese Opera and Shanghai Kun Hua chinese Opera, Kailash Pandya- a living treaure of India, Urban Bush Women, dance legend Bella Lewitzky, performance artist Rachel Rosenthal, and the Academy Award-winning actor Karl Malden.

Other guest artists enhance our productions and give our students the benefits of working with professionals in many areas - fight choreography, lighting, scenic and costume design, Classical Indian Dance Theatre, movement and acting.

One of the strengths of our Dance Program is the Friday Guest Series, designed to expose students to the work of noted professionals on a regular basis. Past artists have been from the Paul Talor Repertory, Bela Lewitzky Company, and Nancy Zendora & Dancers.

We also have a series of workshops, in which guests from all areas of theatre and dance - stage managers, actors, agents, playwrights, designers - speak to and answer our students' questions.
